Welcome to
The Ambient-BD research project aims to help advance the clinical management of Bipolar Disorder through better understanding the connection between patients' mood episodes, their sleep timing, circadian rhythms and exposure to light.

Project Overview
Ambient-BD is a collaboration between The University of Edinburgh and Maynooth University. The project is funded by the Wellcome Trust and has close ties with the Circadian Mental Health Network and Bipolar Scotland.
Over the course of five years the teams at both universities will work on five distinct workstreams. To find out more about each of them click here.

Workstream 1
Here at Maynooth University we will be working specifically on the Ambient-BD workstream 1 which aims to assess new data collection methods for their suitability to collect long-term data on sleep timing, activity levels and light exposure in a passive and contact-free way. The collected data will be used to infer information about circadian rhythms. For this we will be looking for 25 healthy participants for comparison to 10 participants with Bipolar Disorder.
